Hello, dear friends. Have you ever done the late night internet search “Am I an alcoholic?” You’re not alone. I’ve been there, and it’s a rough place to be.
What if we are asking ourselves the wrong question?
The word “alcoholic” (and “addict” for that matter) prevent people from giving themselves permission to make a change when the suffering is still small.
Comparison is the thief of joy, as they say, and there is no reason to try to analyze if in fact we are “alcoholics.” What if we asked ourselves instead — could I benefit from a change? Would I suffer less if I did something differently?
You can always find someone who is doing worse than you. Instead of letting the addicted voice in your mind make excuses about whether or not we fit into a metaphorical box, why not start with curiosity and the invitation that change is available at every moment?
Permission to change before things get worse: granted. Your curiosity is a gift.
May you be happy and free, dear reader.
