Hello dear friends!
As you may have been able to tell, my creative output has been low in recent weeks. I’ve been updating on events but have had very little inspiration to write anything about growing in our recovery.
After Give Camp NWA weekend — I crashed. I am eternally grateful that folks volunteered for three days to build RD a completely free, professional, great looking website (check it out here.). I also knew that spending an entire weekend away from home was going to take a serious toll on me. Predictably, as I added exhaustion upon already existing exhaustion, my mental and physical state fell into a bit of a collapse.
There’s a false notion under capitalism that “working hard” is inherently virtuous.
I fall prey to this as much as the next person. I think that if I only pick up one more shift, write one more (to be rejected) grant, or network with the exact right person, that maybe it will get me ahead this time.
The truth is that the value of life and the foundation of our recovery is self-care. What’s important is knowing our limits and getting nowhere near them.
Let’s try a new thought on for size: your survival is enough. My survival is enough. Sleep, drink water, eat, get a balance of rest and movement, and see your friends in real life. Work less. Pick more flowers. Play with your dog. Stay in bed. Engage with your curiosity.
Life is meaningful when we get to live it.
May you be happy and free, dear reader.
