Who We Are

Recovery Demystified was created to fill a gap in addiction recovery: a need for non-religious, science-based, empowering, and barrier-free services that welcome everyone. We believe recovery is not one-size-fits-all. Every person deserves the freedom to shape their own path, guided by intuition, lived experience, and choice.
Much of the suffering of addiction comes from isolation and loneliness. We fight this by building safer spaces where people can connect, share openly, and find belonging. Through peer-led support groups, sober social events, our podcast, newsletter, and digital resources, we remind people that they are not alone.
Our services are barrier-free, because recovery resources should never be locked behind a paywall. Whether someone attends a group, reads our blog, listens to the podcast, or joins an event, they are met with open access and consistent support.
Our approach is non-religious and science-based. We reject dogma and instead ground our work in research, neuroscience, and the lived wisdom of people in recovery. We welcome those who are sober, sober-curious, or using harm reduction — because every step toward healing deserves support.
Recovery is for everyone. We intentionally center LGBTQ+ people, people of color, disabled people, unhoused communities, and the working class. Our spaces are designed to reflect and honor the diversity of lived experiences. We support survival first, then help people discover what thriving looks like on their own terms.
We believe in healing through community, not punishment. When harm happens, we practice transformative justice, focusing on repair, growth, and connection rather than shame or repentance.
Just as we ground healing in community, we also recognize the history of the land we operate on. We honor the Osage, Quapaw, Dakota, and Caddo peoples. Indigenous communities have long used circles of community in recovery, and we commit to carrying that tradition forward by offering culturally appropriate spaces for Indigenous neighbors today.
